The Dallas Mavericks are eyeing several free agents, including: James Posey (Miami Heat), P.J. Brown (Chicago Bulls), Chris Webber (Detroit Pistons) and possibly Matt Barnes and Mickael Pietrus, both of the Golden State Warriors, although a likely sign-and-trade for Pietrus, a restricted free agent, makes him a more difficult acquisition.

Suns could replace Thomas with Brown

The Phoenix Suns will look to add a replacement for forward Kurt Thomas through what is a lean free agent class when it comes to big men.

The head of the list is Chicago Bulls veteran P.J. Brown, although there are indications that the 38-year-old is leaning heavily toward retirement.

Brown's agent, Mark Bartelstein, is also the agent for Suns' GM Steve Kerr, and there is a feeling that if Brown decides to play, Phoenix affords the ideal situation.

The acquisition of point guard Steve Francis could lead to other moves for the Houston Rockets. General manager Daryl Morey has said he would look to move point guard John Lucas III, and has spoken with several teams, including the New Orleans Hornets.

Morey said he would not necessarily move other point guards, but the Miami Heat have expressed interest in Rafer Alston, with forward Udonis Haslem and center Michael Doleac among the names discussed who could be included in a trade.

According to multiple league sources, the New Jersey Nets were "very close" to completing a three-team trade that would have landed Lamar Odom from the Los Angeles Lakers while sending Richard Jefferson to the Charlotte Bobcats. The Lakers, in turn, would have received Gerald Wallace from Charlotte.

One source insisted Charlotte part-owner Michael Jordan squashed the deal.
