Nets not interested in swapping Kidd for Bynum

New Jersey Nets GM Ed Stefanski has no plans of reigniting trade talks with the Los Angeles Lakers regarding Jason Kidd and Andrew Bynum.
The Nets, on the verge of missing the playoffs, would have done the deal back in February, near the trade deadline, but not now, with the Eastern Conference so wide open after the Cleveland Cavaliers' run to the NBA Finals.

Rockets trying to wheel and deal
Thursday, Jun 21, 2007 6:13 pm EDT
The Houston Rockets have several possible moves in the works. Apparently, they are trying to snag one of the Dallas Mavericks' three second-round draft picks in exchange for Vassilis Spanoulis.
The Los Angeles Clippers also appear to be discussing trading forward James Singleton (6-8, 215 pounds) to the Rockets in a deal that would involve point guard John Lucas III.
And the Los Angeles Lakers are contemplating a deal to acquire Rockets' guard guard Luther Head in exchange for power forward Brian Cook (6-9, 250 pounds).

Neither Bryant, nor Garnett likely to join Suns
Wednesday, Jun 20, 2007 1:32 pm EDT

The Phoenix Suns have been tossed into the rumors as trade destinations for the Minnesota Timberwolves' Kevin Garnett and the Los Angeles Lakers Kobe Bryant.
But if Phoenix is to make a move, it is more likely to package its first-round draft slots to move up in next week's draft. And even that is considered unlikely.
The Garnett scenario is deemed a long shot because sending Amaré Stoudemire to the Timberwolves is not an option.Bryant reportedly listed Phoenix as a suitable destination (along with Chicago and New York), but the Lakers will move back to Minneapolis before they deal Bryant to a team in their conference, let alone their division.

No truth to Bryant-Arenas trade rumor

Contrary to Internet rumors, there have been no discussions between the Washington Wizards and the Los Angeles Lakers about a possible trade involving Gilbert Arenas and Kobe Bryant, according to two league sources with knowledge of the situation.
"It's ridiculous," a source said. "There have been no talks between the Wizards and the Lakers concerning Gilbert and Kobe. The Wizards aren't trading Arenas."

Jackson thinks Bryant will remain with Lakers

While recovering from hip surgery at home, Los Angeles Lakers coach Phil Jackson weighed in Monday on the latest movement in the Kobe Bryant ordeal, sounding a positive note for Bryant's future with the team.
Jackson has spoken with Bryant numerous times since the nine-time All-Star demanded a trade May 30, an action Bryant reiterated last Friday in a meeting with team owner Jerry Buss."He's made a decision that he feels justified to hold – one that I've questioned – that he has reasons to leave the Lakers," Jackson wrote Monday in a brief e-mail to the Los Angeles Times. "However, it's my unshakeable feeling that Kobe will be a Laker next October … when training camp opens."

Arenas or Pierce could be involved Kobe deals
Tuesday, Jun 19, 2007 1:55 pm EDT

In speculated three-way deals for Kobe Bryant involving the Chicago Bulls, the Los Angeles Lakers would get the Boston Celtics' Paul Pierce, who hasn't even made the playoffs for two years, or Washington Wizards' Gilbert Arenas, who is as unpredictable as they come.
Such trades seem only to benefit the Bulls, which the Bulls appreciate.

Suns asking too much for Marion?
Monday, Jun 18, 2007 1:20 pm EDT

After the Arizona Republic wrote last week that the Phoenix Suns forward Shawn Marion is being shopped, perhaps to the Detroit Pistons in a straight-up deal for Rasheed Wallace, a local reporter asked Pistons team president Joe Dumars what he thought of the proposed deal.
"(The Suns would want) two of your starting players, the 15th and the 27th pick for that?" Dumars said, without acknowledging Marion by name. "You know what you would tell them? Hell, the Los Angeles Lakers didn't get that for Shaq (O'Neal). Philly (Philadelphia 76ers) didn't get that for (Allen) Iverson."

Trade talks stall on Pacers' O'Neal to Lakers
Monday, Jun 18, 2007 1:09 pm EDT

The Los Angeles Lakers and the Indiana Pacers have stalled on trade talks involving six-time All-Star Jermaine O'Neal because the Lakers do not want to give up both Andrew Bynum and Lamar Odom in a swap for O'Neal and power forward Troy Murphy, a source said.
The Lakers would also include Kwame Brown in the trade.
Numerous sources have said O'Neal wants to play in L.A.

Lakers need a point guard
Monday, Jun 18, 2007 12:49 pm EDT
Getty Images
If the Los Angeles Lakers don't acquire a ballhandling guard in a trade, they would probably try to sign one with their midlevel exception of five years and about $30 million.
Possibilities include Steve Blake (Denver Nuggets), Milwaukee Bucks Mo Williams and Earl Boykins, and the Los Angeles Clippers' Jason Hart. A reunion with Chucky Atkins (Memphis Grizzlies) or Gary Payton (Miami Heat) – both free agents – will not happen, and the Detroit Pistons' Chauncey Billups and the Sacramento Kings' Mike Bibby will ask for more money than the Lakers can afford if they opt out of their contracts.
