Miles wants to stay with Jazz

Friday, Aug 24, 2007 1:18 pm EDT

Describing contract talks as being "in a little bit of a holding pattern," agent Billy Ceisler said Wednesday that guard C.J. Miles still sees his future being with the Utah Jazz.

It has been 53 days and counting, though, without a deal since Miles hit the free-agent market. The Jazz now have 13 players under contract for next season; Miles has had a qualifying offer on the table since June 29 that he hasn't signed.

Based on his conversations with the Jazz, Ceisler said the team was still committed to Miles and was hopeful a deal could be reached.

Heat: No interest in Artest, unlikely to re-sign Posey

Friday, Aug 24, 2007 1:16 pm EDT

Pat Riley, Miami Heat president and head coach, addressed the local media Thursday and disclosed that the team is not pursuing Sacramento Kings forward Ron Artest, that he'd love to have P.J. Brown join the Heat, and that point guard Gary Payton most likely won't return to the team.

Riley also said that the Heat might not be able to sign free agent James Posey, "Even though we made him, what we feel, is the best offer out on the market."

Wolves want to move Howard

Thursday, Aug 23, 2007 12:28 pm EDT

After receiving what was described as a dignified trade request from Juwan Howard, Minnesota Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor said he will try to accommodate the power forward, who was acquired in June as part of a three-team deal. Howard initially made the request to Wolves vice president Kevin McHale.

The Wolves are talking to three teams about potential trades in an attempt to deal players with longer-term contracts.

Knicks will drop Dickau, want Nichols in Europe

Thursday, Aug 23, 2007 11:58 am EDT

New York Knicks' rookie shooting guard Demetris Nichols refused the Knicks' request to play this season in Italy to solve their roster crunch – a denial that could shorten his Knicks career. However, the Knicks will improve Nichols' chances of making the club by releasing point guard Dan Dickau in the next three weeks to reduce their roster to 16, according to sources.

The Knicks will extend a tender offer to Nichols by Friday's deadline to retain his rights, but Neff said Knicks VP Glen Grunwald told him Nichols may not make the team if he doesn't go to Europe.

Don Nelson, Golden State Warriors head coach, is telling friends that he's upset with the Warriors' most recent proposal and that the next week or so could be the tipping point.

Multiple sources confirmed Tuesday that Warriors management has offered to raise Nelson's base salary from $3.1 million to $5.1 million for the coming season. That's agreeable to the Nelson camp, but the Warriors' offer is also believed to change the guaranteed $3.1 million for 2008-2009 (the final year under his original deal) into a non-guaranteed team option for $5.1 million.

Kobe may lobby, again, for Kidd trade

New Jersey Nets' point guard Jason Kidd and Los Angeles Lakers' guard Kobe Bryant are teammates on the U.S. team playing together in the dream backcourt Bryant envisioned when the Lakers talked trade with Kidd's Nets last February.

The deal broke down when the Lakers wouldn't include young center Andrew Bynum. Bryant became upset and claimed he didn't even know Bynum was on the team.

Bryant has talked about requesting a trade from the Lakers since the end of last season and talks favorably about playing with Kidd, meaning he could return to L.A. after this tournament pushing for such a trade again.

Kobe still wants out

Los Angeles Lakers' guard Kobe Bryant has been low-key during workouts with the U.S. team, trying to defuse his trade demand issues with the Lakers … while pointedly refusing to take anything back or rule out a holdout.

However, he still wants out.

He finally figured out the Lakers wouldn't move him, no matter what he said, and settled down … only to watch in anguish as his beloved Kevin Garnett went to the Boston Celtics. If the Celtics could land KG with nobody, why couldn't the Lakers?

Veteran center Adonal Foyle has agreed to terms with the Orlando Magic, according to a league source, waiting only for his agent/attorney to return to the country to announce the deal. It could come by Friday.

Foyle accepted a contractual buyout earlier this summer from the Golden State Warriors.

Foyle, 32, will sign for the NBA veteran's minimum of $1.3 million (based on his 10 years of experience).

Oakley not in Magic plans

Former power forward Charles Oakley, 43, is interested in joining the Orlando Magic, but the Magic appear to be looking at other options to fill the void left by the departure of Darko Milicic.

Orlando is considering Adonal Foyle, waived last week by the Golden State Warriors, along with free agent Brian Skinner.

The team had talked with P.J. Brown and Chris Webber, although both are hoping to get more lucrative deals than the veteran minimum ($1.3 million) the Magic can offer under the salary cap.
